The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has once again raised the price of furnace oil. According to the latest decision, the price of furnace oil has been increased by 18.85 Taka per liter, from 94.69 Taka to 113.54 Taka. This price hike was announced on Monday (May 18) through a press release and will take effect from midnight today.
The press release stated that the new price was adjusted at a special commission meeting held on May 18, considering the FOB value of crude oil imported between April 13 and May 12, and the exchange rate of the US dollar. This adjustment reflects the changes in these factors for the month of May. Previously, a committee was formed on March 15 to coordinate the price of furnace oil. Due to no crude oil imports in March, that committee recommended adjusting the furnace oil price for April based on the average international market price (Platts Rate) for refined furnace oil in March and the US dollar exchange rate.
Subsequently, this recommendation was reviewed in special commission meetings held on April 5 and 12, leading to the approval of the new price. A significant portion of imported furnace oil is utilized in electricity generation. Industry insiders anticipate that this price increase will consequently impact electricity costs, as higher furnace oil prices will escalate the production expenses for oil-fired power plants.
Prior to this, on April 12, the price of furnace oil was raised from 70.10 Taka per liter by 24 Taka, setting it at 94.69 Taka. #ফার্নেসঅয়েল #বিইআরসি #জ্বালানি #বিদ্যুৎউৎপাদন
